- With the sourcing for energy and international conflicts within nations and alliances, ten countries have the world’s largest proved natural gas reserves namely Russia, Iran, Qatar, United States, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, China, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nigeria and Venezuela. These countries have at least 200tcf (trillion cubic feet) of proved natural gas reserves. 6 of them are in Asia, 1 in North America, 1 in Africa and 1 in South America. Russia is Eurasia (Europe and Asia).
- Other countries with less than 200tcf include Algeria, Iraq, Australia and Mozambique with 159tcf , 131tcf, 113tcf and 100tcf respectively.
- Russia has the largest proved natural gas reserves in the world, followed by Iran and Qatar. These three countries have 51% of the world’s proved natural gas reserves .
- The combined total of Saudi Arabia, China, UAE, Nigeria and Venezuela’s gas reserves are not up to Russia’s.
