After Ibrahim Magu’s Suspension
- Following the suspension of the former acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, there was an interest in the tenure of the leaders of EFCC
- Since 2003, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has had 4 different leaders. The EFCC Act grants The Chairman a period of four years and he or she may be re-appointed for a further term of four years and no more.
- There has only been one woman (Mrs Farida Waziri) leading the EFCC since inception.
- Mr Ibrahim Lamorde has had the opportunity to lead EFCC twice; once as Acting Chairman and secondly as Executive Chairman. He is the only one who has so far served 3 different Presidents – Presidents Yar’Adua (2008), Jonathan (2011-15) and Buhari (2015).
Biodata of EFCC Chairpersons
- So far, Ahmadu Bello University seems to be a school (3/4) of choice for the Chairperson of EFCC.
- The youngest (42yrs) and longest serving Chair (1735 days) is Mr. Ribadu while the oldest (58yrs), highest ranked but short-tenured Chair (1268 days) is Mrs Waziri.
- Both Mr. Ribadu and Mrs Waziri had Masters in Law from Ahmadu Bello University and Lagos State University respectively.
- Mrs Farida Waziri has been the highest ranked officer leading the EFCC. She was a retired AIG (Assistant inspector General) when appointed.
