DR Congo also plans to have a second national airline.<\/li>\n<li>All North African countries have a national carrier while West African countries have the least number of national airlines per region.<\/li>\n<li>Historically, West African countries had national carriers especially around the 1950s-60s which coincided with independence for some of these countries but they are largely defunct today.<\/li>\n<li>Nigeria launched Nigeria Air in 2018 but it plans to take off in 2022. Ghana has similar plans to relaunch Ghana Airways in 2022.<\/li>\n<li>East Africa has the most national carriers with Ethiopian Airlines leading the continent in fleet and alliances across the continent.<\/li>\n<p>&nbsp;\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Africa&#8217;s Biggest National Carriers by Fleet Size<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-29698 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Airlines-dAfrique-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Airlines-dAfrique-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Airlines-dAfrique-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Airlines-dAfrique-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Airlines-dAfrique-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Airlines-dAfrique.png 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ethiopian Airlines dominates the African airspace and is 100% owned by the government.<\/li>\n<li>With a fleet of 131 and 38 on <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.ethiopianairlines.com\/AboutEthiopian\/OurFleets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">order<\/a> (as at the time of this publication), Ethiopian Airlines has the largest fleet in Africa (and partnership deals with other African countries).<\/li>\n<li>Other African national carriers with more than 50 aircraft in their fleet are in North-Africa:\n<ul>\n<li>EgyptAir (76) of Egypt,<\/li>\n<li>Air Algerie (56) of Algeria, and<\/li>\n<li>Royal Air Maroc of Morocco.
