Meanwhile, Nigeria&#8217;s Vice-President had talked about his country&#8217;s attempt to improve the ease of doing business. We took a look at the EODB ranking for each African country.\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29855\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29855\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-29855 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/EODB_Africa_provisiodigital-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"Ease of Doing Business Score for African Countries\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/EODB_Africa_provisiodigital-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/EODB_Africa_provisiodigital-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/EODB_Africa_provisiodigital-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/EODB_Africa_provisiodigital-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/provisioservices.com\/staging\/6461\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/EODB_Africa_provisiodigital.png 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29855\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ease of Doing Business Score for African Countries<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>The ease of doing business (EODB) score by the World Bank, <a href=\"https:\/\/elibrary.worldbank.org\/doi\/10.1596\/978-1-4648-1440-2_ch6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measures<\/a> the economy of a country\u2019s performance in relation to regulatory best practice across a sample of 41 indicators for 10 Doing Business topics (now 11) included in the aggregate ranking.<\/li>\n<li>These topics are:\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Starting a business<\/li>\n<li>Dealing with construction permits<\/li>\n<li>Getting electricity<\/li>\n<li>Registering property<\/li>\n<li>Getting credit<\/li>\n<li>Protecting minority investment<\/li>\n<li>Paying taxes<\/li>\n<li>Trading across borders<\/li>\n<li>Enforcing contracts<\/li>\n<li>Resolving insolvency<\/li>\n<li>Contracting with the government (added to the EODB 2020 report)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>A score of <b>81.5<\/b> means the economy was <b>18.5<\/b> percentage points short of highest regulatory performance.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.worldbank.org\/handle\/10986\/2139\/recent-submissions?locale-attribute=fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> to the World Bank,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>The goal of the Doing Business series is to provide objective data for use by governments in designing sound business regulatory policies and to encourage research on the important dimensions of the regulatory environment for firms.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>After an internal audit report raised <a href=\"https:\/\/thedocs.worldbank.org\/en\/doc\/84a922cc9273b7b120d49ad3b9e9d3f9-0090012021\/original\/DB-Investigation-Findings-and-Report-to-the-Board-of-Executive-Directors-September-15-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">concerns<\/a> on pressure to change the data points for China, the report was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/news\/statement\/2021\/09\/16\/world-bank-group-to-discontinue-doing-business-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discontinued<\/a> in 2021.<\/li>\n<li>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/programs\/business-enabling-environment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans<\/a> by the World Bank to replace the report in 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height: 778px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\" defer src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/hf4Du\/embed.js?v=1\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/hf4Du\/full.png\" alt=\"This table lists the Ease of Doing Business in Africa\" \/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>In the 2020 EODB Report, there are 22 cities in the list of 213 economies. Technically, there were more than 190 countries observed.<\/li>\n<li>The African country with cities considered was Nigeria &#8211; Kano and Lagos.<\/li>\n<li>While Nigeria&#8217;s score is 56, Kano had 58.2 while Lagos had 56.5.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Ranking of <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>African Countries on The EODB\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Mauritius ranks highest in Africa in EODB and 13th in the world while Somalis ranks lowest in the world.<\/li>\n<li>There are ten (10) African countries in the top 100 &#8211; Mauritius, Rwanda, Morocco, Kenya, Tunisia, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Togo and Seychelles.<\/li>\n<li>Most of the African countries feature on the bottom of the list; 44 of them are outside the top 100 countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/4.0\/\" rel=\"license noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border-width: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/i.creativecommons.org\/l\/by-nc\/4.0\/88x31.png\" alt=\"Creative Commons License\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis work is licensed under a <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/4.0\/\" rel=\"license noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why We L\ud83d\udc40ked Into This \u00bb\ud83c\udfa8 Africa&#8217;s richest man, Aliko Dangote in a conversation revealed the bottlenecks experienced in doing business in Africa.
