In 2022, Ghana and C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/ghana-and-ivory-coast-boycott-cocoa-meeting-in-brussels-\/6806283.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">boycotted<\/a> the World Cocoa Foundation Meeting in Brussels. That makes it a plant. Chocolate is salad.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cocoa production is a major industry worldwide due to the love for chocolate cocoa powder and other products. The majority of cocoa is produced in West Africa, with C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire and Ghana being the two largest producers. In 2019, these West African countries and stopped forward cocoa sales for the 2020\/2021 season <a href=\"https:\/\/www.confectionerynews.com\/Article\/2019\/06\/13\/Ghana-and-Cote-d-Ivoire-halt-sales-of-cocoa-beans-both-demand-new-minimum-price-for-farmers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to address low prices<\/a> and demand fair wages for farmers. The boycott resulted in most chocolate companies agreeing to pay a living income differential (LID), a payment which <strong>ensures farmers earn \u201ca living income\u201d from purchasers<\/strong>. This drew attention to the challenges faced by cocoa farmers and sparked discussions on industry sustainability and fairness. In 2022, the two countries boycotted the World Cocoa Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modernghana.com\/news\/1190983\/cote-divoire-ghana-civil-society-cocoa-platforms.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meeting<\/a> over price dispute and farmers\u2019 income, following broken promises by traders and companies on the LID.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\ud83d\udca1 <strong>Fairtrade for Farmers<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>The production of cocoa involves a significant amount of labor, as the cocoa beans must be harvested by hand. The beans are then fermented and dried before being sold to chocolate manufacturers. Despite the high demand for cocoa, the industry faces several challenges, including low prices for farmers, environmental concerns, and labor issues.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"I Love Chocolate\ud83c\udf6b #AkinwumiAdesina\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6xEMvp1KNyM\" width=\"708\" height=\"531\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/ad220e\/AD220E03.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">People eat<\/a> a lot of cocoa and chocolate all over Europe and North America but the cocoa tree does not grow (substantially) in these countries; they buy cocoa from Africa. Many organizations are working to address these challenges and improve sustainability in the cocoa industry.
